Graphs will be made from polls created by each group or from statistics in research. The must be made using a program like Excel. They cannot be copy and pasted from other sources. After making the graphs in Excel, they can be copied and pasted on to a PowerPoint slide and saved as JPEGS to be used in your shows.
Graph Rules
For XY Axis Style Charts:
For Pie, doughnut, bubble etc. style:
- Use colors to enhance, not distract from, the chart clarity. Contrasting font versus backgrounds, lines, data points, etc. is very important for clarity. (Right click on background, lines, bars etc. on the chart and choose "Format...") Pictures can be used for fill, but be careful that they do not make labels difficult to see.
- Chart Title needs to be capitalized, more pronounced (bold and larger font) than the Axis Titles and must clearly identify the topic. (Layout, Chart Title)
- Include a legend when necessary. (Layout, Legend)
- Legend, data, and axis titles need to be a size and style that is easy to see.
- Double check for accurate data, spelling, and capitalization.
- Optional- Include Data Table in chart. (Layout, Data Table)
For XY Axis Style Charts:
- Give titles for an X and Y/ Z Axis for applicable charts that are more pronounced (bold or larger) than the data. (Layout, Axis Titles) If the X axis labels are incorrect, right click on the chart, choose Select Data, and edit in the horizontal axis section.
- Make sure that the X and Y/ Z axis numbers/ labels are all visible for applicable charts. (Right click on chart, Select Data, edit either Legend or Horizontal Axis Series)
- Make sure X and Y/ Z axis numbers and labels are both a consistent font size for applicable charts. To adjust, right click on the numbers and adjust font).
- Include a clearly numbered Vertical scale to follow for applicable charts. Usually the default when you make it is fine, but if you need to adjust it right click on Vertical Axis numbers and Format Axis.
For Pie, doughnut, bubble etc. style:
- Use % labels for charts that best exemplify that style of data- eg. pie graphs. (Right Click on chart, Add Data Labels. To format numbers colors etc, select a label, right click, and select Format Data Labels)
